Formed 28 miles south of London in the little town of Crawley in 1978, The Cure quickly became the forefront of the emerging post-punk and new wave movements in the UK, and a strong influence on the genre of goth. Regarded as one of the most significant alternative artists of the 1980s, they released eight albums during that period, culminating with Robert Smith's magnum opus, Disintegration, in 1989.
